Dr. Hanan Morsy is the Director of the Macroeconomic Policy, Forecasting and Research Department at the African Development Bank and a Visiting Scholar at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. She has provided quantitative policy analysis to governments around the world on macroeconomic, fiscal and financial issues as well as on private sector development and structural reforms. Morsy has published on a wide range of economic and development issues and led a number of major publications.
Morsy was the Lead Economist for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Region at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London from 2012 to 2017. She worked at the International Monetary Fund between 2003 and 2012 in various capacities across different departments.
Morsy is the Associate Editor of the monthly journal World Development, a member of the Aberdeen Economic Policy Panel, a board member of the Partnership for Economic Policy, and a member of the Board of Trustees at the London Middle East Institute.
In 2020, she was named as one of Egypt’s 50 most influential women.
She holds a PhD in economics from George Washington University and a master’s degree in economics from the University of California at Davis, both in the United States.
